ANNOUNCING SLOUMC STRATEGIC MINISTRY

INITIATIVES FOR 2010!

After several weeks of investigation into the needs of the greater SLOUMC community (needs material, emotional, spiritual), our congregation has chosen five particular areas in which we especially we want to move forward:

1)    Provide tutoring and life skills mentoring to needful youth and adults in our area.  Point Person for this initiative:  TJ Trimble

2)    Provide much-needed space for the aforementioned tutoring and life skills mentoring, as well as other educational and recreational opportunities for the needful in our community.  Point Person for this initiative:  Denine Hicks

3)    Connect students and student groups at Cal Poly and Cuesta with opportunties to serve the needful in our community. Support our own Wesley Fellowship (college ministry) in their efforts to do the same.  Point Person for this initiative:  Dan Jansen

4)    Create an "EZ Serve" ministry in which congregants would undertake simple-but-important tasks for the needful of our community and congregation.  Point Person for this initiative:  TBD

5)    Create a "babysitting" ministry providing free, shared, and/or very reasonably priced childcare on a regular basis so parents can have needed time to care for their for their relationships with one another and with their own souls.  Point Person for this initiative:  TBD

If you have questions, please contact Lauren Brown or Jason Takagi

Soundwave Handbell Concert

Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear SOUNDWAVE!, an energetic high school handbell choir from Gem State Academy, in Caldwell, Idaho. They’ll be playing right here in our sanctuary on Friday, March 12th, at 7:00 p.m. Their repertoire includes a variety of music executed with clarity, feeling and completely by memory. No admission charge. Bring your family and friends to this exceptional concert.

Military Parents

Matt Taverner is part of our military parents group. Matt is an Army Medic. He is asking for shoes and socks for the children in Afghanistan where he is stationed. Used is good! It is very cold there and the children are in bare feet. If you are able to donate please bring the shoes and socks to the church office. Thank you so much for helping Matt and the children.                                                                                          —Janice
