The Ministry to the Community
The congregation, one of the oldest in the present California-Pacific Annual Conference, was recognized and included when a new conference was formed in 1876 in Los Angeles and known as the Southern California Conference.
The congregation has always maintained a very faithful commitment to ministries beyond the local church, such as issues dealing with hunger and homelessness, civil/ equal rights projects, support of missionaries in foreign lands, natural disasters involvement, participation in interdenominational affairs, and annual conference outreach endeavors. It has sponsored a highly respected Children’s Center, and the Wesley Foundation has been a significant outreach to students at nearby Cal Poly State University and Cuesta College.
Members of the present congregation carry forward the activities of faith of those saints numbered in its glorious past, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6 NIV).
